Exploring Canada's Arctic |

"Shortly after stepping off the pontoons of our Twin Otter and onto the pebble shores of Dubawnt Lake, in central Nunavut, I was immediately struck by the sheer size and rugged beauty of Canada's North. It didn't take long before its raw power and beauty had captivated my imagination and soul. This land of endless views, great wilderness experiences and a fascinating people captured my heart and ignited a spark that would only grow with each return visit to the Arctic". |

That was some twenty years ago when a geology professor had invited me to work with him on the Barren Lands as his field assistant. Since then I have traveled throughout Nunavik and Nunavut to places as far north as Ellesmere and Axel Heiberg Islands. For the past ten years I have also worked as a high school teacher in Inukjuak (Nunavik, northern Quebec) and most recently in Pangnirtung, Nunavut. During my years in the north I've experienced the thrill of spying on sleeping muskoxen, watching giant bowhead whales feed in the waters of the Cumberland Sound and staring in awe at a night sky filled with dancing ribbons of light. Some of my most memorable experiences include drinking tea with Elders at their camps and listening to their stories about life on the land a generation ago. Join me in this section as I share some of my images and memories from this fascinating corner of Canada.
