Motto to live by  "Everybody needs a bit of chaos in one's life to know you're still alive" - Northern Exposure episode.

Claus' passion for photography developed early on in life while visiting relatives in Germany.  His first picture of a sheep in a farmer's field was out-of-focus, off-centre and underexposed.  Since then he has improved his photographic skills by traveling the world to photograph lemurs in Madagascar, giant tortoises and boobies of the Galapagos, the ancient ruins of Machu Picchu, the aurora in Canada's High Arctic and insects of the cloud forests in Costa Rica and Bolivia.

Claus graduated with an Honour's degree in Biology from Carleton University in Ottawa, Ontario (Canada) where he was introduced to the fascinating worlds of entomology , biodiversity, Canada's Arctic and global travel.

His images and stories on the natural history of Canada's North appear regularly in Above and Beyond (Canada's Arctic Journal).  He has also been commissioned to write for Rough Guides for their travel books to Canada, the Indian Ocean, the Caribbean and for their Ultimate Experiences Series.  He is currently working on an assignment to update The North chapter for the upcoming Rough Guide to Canada (7th edition) due to be released in 2010.

Currently, Claus teaches science and photography in Pangnirtung, Nunavut - a small Inuit community located on Baffin Island in Canada's High Arctic.
